Glenfield Junction Alliance awarded Australasia’s rail project of the year for 2014

Our congratulations go to the Glenfield Junction Alliance (GJA) which has been awarded Australasia’s rail project of the year for 2014 by the Railway Technical Society. This award is offered only once every two years, to recognise an engineering achievement considered worthy of public recognition due to its originality and contribution to the rail industry. GJA forms an integral part of Sydney’s South West Rail Link project, and involved rebuilding the existing Glenfield Station and bus/rail interchange and constructing two rail flyovers in an extremely constrained site, whilst maintaining all rail operations for this critical junction in Sydney. PCI worked with Transport For NSW (TFNSW) to set up GJA as an alliance between TFNSW, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Bouygues Travaux Publics and John Holland. PCI’s role included:

Developing the strategy for engagement with stakeholders including RailCorp (now Sydney Trains) to agree the appropriate project approach
Designing and facilitating the alliance establishment
Developing the commercial framework, including innovative incentive mechanisms to align the various parties’ interests
Providing support during delivery in specialist areas such commercial interfaces to adjacent works at Glenfield junction performed by the RailCorp Program Alliance (‘Novo Rail’).
